William Oliver was born in Bruton, Somerset 1996. He studied Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art, and was hugely influenced by both the picturesque and rugged landscapes in the south of England. William’s artistic practice ranges from plein-air drawings to studio work. He embraces a broad range of materials and techniques from pastels, print-making, and oil painting. William currently lives and works in London and is discovering new influences for his work in the sprawling metropolis which is Englands capital.
Inspired by the art of children, William is deeply interested in the ideas explored by Jean Dubuffet in L’art Brut, or outsider art. This is art as an expression of things which cannot be stated in any other way: art as it’s own language. Tense and often highly charged, his work seeks to explore the ways object and landscape can be imbued with a powerful sense of emotional resonance. he’s interested in the ways in which he can convey a sense of place, and through it a sense of interior landscape, of the mind. Williams art practice incudes mural painting and commissions which he completes alongside working towards exhibitions.
